MEET UMATILLA'S LIBRARY CATS |
Have you been to the library in recent months, looked into
the children's room and thought "I thought I saw a putty-tatt!!" You aren't
seeing things. The Umatilla library has, in fact, two library cats.
Dewey Decimal came to the library over a year ago. Her human mother
has Alzheimer's and could no longer take care of her. The vet offered the
cat the the library's director. After a quick staff meeting it was agreed
that Dewey should come to live here at the library She was unsure of her new
home at first, but after a couple of weeks she settled right in. Now she's
a pro, frequently unfiling papers to be filed, typing and using the telephone. |
Page Turner came into our family last September. She
was having a good old time in the middle of SR 19 playing "dodge car" when she
was rescued by a teenager. One of our librarians bought that 3 week old
kitten for $2.00. We cleaned her up and nursed her back to health.
Dewey wasn't sure of the new addition at first, but took to the mischevious baby
in no time. Now they race back and forth across the office and children's
room, playing tag and other mysterious kitty games. She is trying real
hard to learn how to use the computer. She'll stare at the screen endlessly
then tap at the keyboard herself. |
Our two babies are the loves of our lives! When it's a rough day we just go
into the back office and cuddle a cat. The kids in the afternoon come into
the back office and take turns grooming and playing with the cats. Page
is especially fond of children. She loves to play "hide-and-seek" and "attack-the-human"
with anyone who is interested. |
I've always loved working at the Umatilla Library.
With our two babies, work is just like home. If ever you're in the area
just come on in for a perrrr-fect visit with Dewey and Page! |
